Time for a little practical advice.
Remember that old saying about there being a “sucker” born every minute? Turns out Solomon offered that same advice a couple of thousand years before it was ever said.
“The simple believe anything, but the prudent give thought to their steps.”
We live in a complicated world. And, sadly, it is filled with all sorts of people who would just love to sell you a lot of nonsense. I don’t just mean those who actually want to literally sell you something you don’t need…I mean those who want to get you to believe their particular
- Brand of religion
- Philosophy about life
- Ideas on how relationships work
- Thoughts on how to succeed
- Political ideas
- Favorite drug of choice
- And much more
So – be savvy. Be, as Jesus put it, “wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” Be open to others; willing to share of yourself; willing to share your faith and a bit of God’s grace – but also watch your back and don’t let those who “live on the dark side” take you in for their own purposes.
The world can be a beautiful place.
It can also be a very dark and ugly place.
And sometimes, it all comes down to how gullible you are – or aren’t.
Prayer: Lord, help me to have discernment and wisdom, so as to follow your guidance and let the world’s nonsense be.
