As I wrote yesterday, we are exploring Luke’s account of how Jesus told stories with one main point – how God values the lost. Today’s passage speaks of a woman searching diligently for a lost coin – sweeping and sweeping until that precious money turns up.
Of course, the point is really not just about money lost and found. It’s about souls lost and found.
Isn’t it wonderful to picture a God who is so loving, so diligent, so insistent in his love for us that he won’t give up on his precious children?
The last line of the story says it so well,
“There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.”
God won’t give up on us. We shouldn’t give up on God.
Let the party begin!
